Snowflake #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page

instructions unclear ... so have some podcats! No links, look them up on your pod-catcher of choice. Or don't, it's entirely up to you.

99% Invisible - general nerdery. In theory, this is an architecture podcast, but it's so much more than that. Started off on the actual radio with episodes starting at ~5min and slowly getting longer over time as they moved firmly into Podcast full time. I'm still working my way through the archive, but worth the deep dive.

Rachel Maddow Presents - political history and commentary. I highly recommend all of them, but her latest, Burn Notice, feels especially important right now. It's US history we aren't taught but probably ought to be.

You Are Good - film commentary. I've fallen behind due to The Horrors. They've got an eclectic mix of films they've discussed from a "how we feel" perspective and it's always interesting, even if I'm not that familiar with the film in question.

American Hysteria - pop culture. Chelsey has sometimes fallen into the white leftist trap of talking out their ass, but they generally mean well and are trying to de-construct America's moral panics of past and present in good faith.

Astonishing Legends - paranormal/supernatural investigation. Pay attention to episode length before jumping in on this one - true episodes are usually around 1-1.5hours with some installments running as long as 4 hours and some stories being told over 3-4 parts. I've been listening to this one for over a year now and I'm still in the archives because of how long the episodes are. XD

3260. Snowflake #3: letter to fandom

Snowflake Challenge #3: Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

As cheesy as it sounds, fandom is why I'm still here. Fandom is how I found my wife. Fandom is how I've survived some of the worst times in my life, from losing family to a drunk driver to trying to rebuild after getting walloped by Helene. So thank you, fandom. Thank you for being weird and wild and wonderful and openly queer even everything else is on screaming hellfire. Things are still wildly dystopian, but I'm doing what little I can to bring joy in spite of everything.

Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

2025 stole my baby, Harley, and in the end, left us with just four foster fails, most of them special needs (and emotional scars and a resolve to not foster any longer):
* Expert Hider, aka Heidi, aka HooHoo. Tortie with very high anxiety (and a flea allergy). She's doing better with so few cats in the house, but she's still wound tighter than an eight day clock most of the time, even on meds.
* Habenero, aka Moonpie, aka Sheldon. Very Orange - we love him, but he's dumb as a brick
* Manicotti, aka Cooter. Tuxie (Burnt Orange) with cataract.
* Sandy Claws. Dilute Tuxie with dwarfism.

Other than Heidi, the cats are much more attuned to my wife. Heidi has decided I am Her Human and she won't even go to breakfast/dinner if I don't carry her out to her bowl.

3256. Snowflake Challenge time!

Challenge #1: The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

For those who may be new, hi! I'm Lise, also known as Selah, Yuuana, Jagu, and/or The Kpop Abuela, grandmother of six but also a genuine Fandom Old. Queer (NB she/her) Latine/Chicana professional Tarot reader, semi-pro writer of queer fiction, amateur music journalist, and hobbiest in an array of other arts and crafts. I'm also a moderator for the writing challenge [community profile] getyourwordsout (pledging is still open, come join us!), wildly pagan, and a semi-retired feral cat rescue/foster mom (we're not taking in anyone new if we can help it, but we still have the local colony we keep eyes on).

As for why I'm doing Snowflake ... it's one part tradition, one part journal refresh, and one part interest in making new connections. My journal is mostly locked these days for various privacy reasons, but we can still chat and maybe even make friends out of this crazy time.
