<In a distressed mossy green frame, a young Korean man (Wooyoung of ATEEZ) stands in the center of a wide soundstage decorated like an apartment but without a drop ceiling in place to complete the illusion. He has short black hair, several piercings in his ears, and wears a black t-shirt under an open white button up with the sleeves rolled up and black pants. He is completing a dance move that involves holding his right arm extended down such that we can see his tattoo, which he is also pointing to. In plain black ink, the tattoo depicts a rose and vine with the top of the blossom at the crook of his elbow and oriented with the stem pointing towards his wrist, a design he has indicated he created to represent ATINY. Header text reads Jagu's Music Monday, with bottom text of #258: Wooyoung (ATEEZ) - Sagittarius, all in a script-like font.

We know my health has been a complete disaster because it's taken me over four months to get this post made. As it is, I'm going to be scrambling to catch up over the next few weeks (health willing) because I still have to hit Poet | Artist and Lemon Drop and Friday is the drop of In Your Fantasy and if I die, remember me fondly, yeah? And play ATEEZ's Empty Box at my memorial.

ahem. Anyway, let's get into it, yeah?

Song: Sagittarius
Artist: Wooyoung (ATEEZ)
Release: February/July 2025 *
cw: flashing/strobing lights, lens flares
CC in 4 tracks, including English

As a quick aside, the reason for the dual release date is this was originally published in February, briefly unpublished at the start of this month, and is now listed on the Golden Hour part 3 repackage which drops, as I said above, on Friday. And if that means all the solos are also going to have MVs, I will die by the end (but what a way to go).

Every night I'll be your sign.... )

Golden Hour part 3: In Your Fantasy Edition (aka GH3 repackage) drops worldwide on Friday, July 11th, at which time we will get this track on all the streaming services, along with 9 more brand new tracks to flesh out the 5 of the original EP. ATEEZ also just launched their In Your Fantasy world tour schedule with two nights of special previewing in Seoul, so KTiny really need to stop being little bitches and support the boys right. *cough*

Want to see Music Monday deep dives more often? Sponsor a song selection! For the low, low price of one (1) KoFi, I'll write up the song of your choice. ANY song of your choice. Yes, even that one that's been played to death. Yes, your obscure faves too. With sponsors, I can stop skipping weeks and falling further and further behind in the releases! Sponsor a current CB for the next open Music Monday slot or sponsor a throwback for a Thursday feature!
But seriously, if you've been enjoying my selections and analyses, we (me and the foster kittens) would love a KoFi in thanks.

ATEEZ - Lemon Drop
cw: shirtless (and soaking wet) men, camera motion

Some day I'll have the time and energy to resume long form Music Monday profiles, but in the meantime, I couldn't hold it in any longer. Song of the summer right here, never mind that summer's only just barely started.

Are you old enough to have caught the significance of that key twist or did you have to have your elders explain it to you? ๐Ÿคฃ

((I've talked before about how I'm trying to highlight queer artists (and queer joy) this month...and I've also talked about how, while he's very careful with his words, Seonghwa has said enough for us to claim him as a fellow queer. And that's not even getting into the canonicals or Jongho being consistently ace-spec-coded. So while there may be a heterosexual explanation for this MV, I'm gleefully in denial of it. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ))

ATEEZ - Celebrate
CC in 5 tracks, including ENG

I knew I was going to post this at some point for Pride, but since the KpopMonday theme is "A RainbowOfMVs" (colorful music videos), it got moved up to today.

At the very least, Seonghwa is under the queer umbrella (he tends to be a bit cagey about it out of necessity, but he's unafraid to play with gender presentation), with the whole group being openly & loudly supportive of the entire queer community. Plus when this came out, non-ATINY kept asking about the "tiny gay man in blue" ๐Ÿ˜œ

While this has fallen out of the performance rotation now, they have updated the lyric from 7 to 8 billion, to reflect the world population.

Kwon Soonkwan - Scenes of a Moment (feat. Jongho (ATEEZ))
cw: lens flare, potential hanky warning

Jongho's voice and ballads really are a match made in heaven. He could sing the telephone book and still bring you to tears if he wanted.

Ailee - Illusion
cw: flashing

By accident (this was originally scheduled for several days ago), this is kinda the perfect song for today. Yeah, I'm having a lot of feelings today, some good, others not so much.

2 bonses: ATEEZ - Birthday + Ten - Stunner )

NMIXX - KNOW ABOUT ME
cw: flashing effects, surrealism

Airports really are such liminal spaces, especially the larger ones. But I have some questions about why a Space Battleship Yamato reference here ๐Ÿ˜…

+2 BONUS tracks: Mingi's Autobahn and ATEEZ's Limitless )

Wooyoung (ATEEZ) - Sagittarius
cw: lens flares

The way Wooyoung dances is both so fluid and so firmly, sharply precise, I'm in love. Imma also need Ktiny to stop calling him fat because it's definitely not true, but every time the accusations spike, he starts dieting again. It's hard on him physically and mentally and also, like, you need a muscular build to dance the way he does, so step off. Bonus props to him for the co-lyricist credit on this love song to ATINY.

ATEEZ - The King (audio only)

This entire week has been one shitshow day after another, so here is my VERY delayed #KpopMonday selection, from my emotional support boy group. This song deserved more, but Japanese releases tend to get the short end of the stick for whatever reason.

KQ Fellaz - From
cw: lens flares

Flashing back to pre-debut team KQ Fellaz and that brief period when they were nine members in LA with the song Hongjoong ended up writing twice. ATEEZ still performs this song live now and then for sentimental encore reasons.

ATEEZ - Pirate King (Zombie ver)
cw: ZOMBIES, unsteady cam, flashing lights

Throwing back to Halloween 2018 and as part of their debut promos, ATEEZ took the show on the road, literally, and in full zombie makeup.
Yeah, these are some very well preserved and able zombies as the boys execute the choreography exactly right, but shh. XD

I realize the 20th ended hours ago, but shhh. I don't know how long I'm going to keep this up, but for now ... a piece of joy every day. Or in this instance, four pieces of joy (so no embeds - I'll do that starting with tomorrow)

1. ATEEZ - Celebrate https://youtu.be/xnDTQ8qV3nE
Because we all need some love and encouragement to keep being who we are, regardless of what that looks like to others. You are wonderful and unique and so very loved.

2. Stray Kids - Youtiful https://youtu.be/RrFn_KJn7Rk
cw: animated twinkling, hanky warning
Yeah, this one always gets me right in the feels, which was rather the point, since this is a love bombing in Kpop

3. NCT 2021 - Beautiful https://youtu.be/nAvjYapdSxk
cw: lens flares, Taeil
This is one from their never-perform-live (again; they did it once) collection, but if they did decide to bring it back, I would not be sad to see them giving Taeil's lines to Doyoung and Kun. Especially Kun.

4. The Rose - You're Beautiful https://youtu.be/7IFJQRlcNQ0
cw: Woosung's cardigan oh lort XD
Arguably more romantic than the others, but it's all in how you choose to read it, really. Plus I just really love the way the boys tease Woosung.

Keep strong, look out for each other, and for as long as I can, I'll keep bringing you Kpop (and other Asian pop) both new and old.

In a distressed dark navy frame, a screenshot from the end of ATEEZ's most recent MV, Ice On My Teeth. The eight members of ATEEZ (L-R Yunho, San (leaning forward on his knees), Yeosang, Seonghwa, Hongjoong, Yeosang, Jongho (leaning forward on his knees, same as San) and Mingi), dressed in dark suits, sit in a set of plain black metal chairs across the bottom of a circle drive, a circular fountain between them and the mansion or possible hotel behind them that bears the sign GOLDEN HOUR over the main entrance portico. The track title, Ice On My Teeth, is partially visible under the usual header text of Jagu's Music Monday. On the bottom left, the additional text of #255: ATEEZ - Ice On My Teeth lays over a dotted line marked with an X like a treasure map and the silhouette of a bird in flight in blue.

Yeah, I'm still not fully back on track with posting things, but hey, it's ATEEZ, we knew I was going to have to feature them on here sooner or later, right? (I'll get around to their second BE:FIRST collab at some point. Probably)

Song: Ice On My Teeth
Artist: ATEEZ
Release: November 2024
Genre: Kpop
cw: flashing, surrealism, arson, mafia

(official lyric translation available in CC ยป Eng)

I'll be honest, when they first revealed Golden Hour part 2's title track, I was both wary and confused. It's the sort of title I would expect from NCT 127 (and oh the irony there, put a pin in that) or even Stray Kids, especially in a collab with a Western pop artist (yeah, stick a pin in that, too), which this showed no signs of being. It's not entirely in line with their previous A titles, stylistically, and other than knowing it was going to be amazing (because ATEEZ's title tracks are always amazing), I really didn't know what to expect. A danceable beat was almost a given, but other than that ... what would be the sound? The story? How would it fit with the A-line lore? Would it fit with A-verse or were we going back to Z-verse already? Or some secret third thing?? So many questions, but 2024 has been the year of questions and surprises and the lore going in interesting directions, so of course Ice On My Teeth (hereafter IOMT) continues that trend.

the review continues! )

GOLDEN HOUR pt 2 is available now wherever you stream and purchase your Kpop, including major retailers who feed their sales data to Circle, Oricon, and Billboard (domestic and global) charts. ATEEZ are further set to resume touring, this next leg in Europe, starting mid January.

As a footnote... I'd mentioned yesterday we were still in fundraising mode to pay to have the hurricane damage fixed, that updated post is here.

In a dark red distressed frame, a screenshot from BE:FIRST x ATEEZ's collaboration, Hush-Hush. On screen right, a young Japanese man with short blue hair (BE:FIRST's Ryuhei) in gray and white faux-camo cargo pants and jacket with black tee underneath facing screen left, left arm extended with hand gesturing with first two fingers separated and pointed down, thumb tucking under. On screen left, a young Korean man with short silver-white hair (ATEEZ's Mingi) in denim, black jacket and brown gloves, left arm extended with first two fingers separated and pointing up, almost meeting Ryuhei's own gesture. The room around them is gray semi-industrial with a far bank of old school reel-to-reel tape machines, reminiscent of late 70s and 80s science fiction. Header text reads Jagu's Music Monday (script font) with subheader of #252: BE:FIRST x ATEEZ - Hush-Hush.

It may or may not even be Monday any more by the time you read this (probably not), it's been one of those days, but I am determined, dammit. XD Or maybe just exhausted. Or both? Could be both...

Song: Hush-Hush
Artists: BE:FIRST x ATEEZ
release: July 2024
genre: Jpop
cw: flashing, cyberpunk surrealism

[official lyrics translation available in CC]

Full review under here )

2024 is definitely shaping up as the year ATEEZ takes on world domination with a vengeance. BE:FIRST are still relatively new to their career, having only debuted in November of 2021 (plus their youngest is an '06-liner, oh god, the babies are taking over) and are already dominating in Tokyo and see this as a first step onto the world stage. Which is both fair and wise. ;) This one-track single is available now for streaming and/or digital purchase on most of the major platforms, as is a remix by m-flo's Taku Takahashi.
